Donte Martin Named to FWAA Freshman A-A Watch List

Donte MartinDonte Martin

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Freshman cornerback Donte Martin was honored by the Football Writers Association of America, being named to the organization’s freshman All-America Watch List.  Martin has started every game this season for the Lobos.

He was one of five Mountain West players that earned the honor.

Martin, as one might expect, tends to be the target of other teams as the only freshman defensive back.  That’s actually a really good thing for UNM.  Martin has been thrown at more than any other Lobo, as opposing quarterbacks have targeted him 61 times this season, and that’s 20 more times than any other Lobo defensive back.  Despite all those throws, opposing quarterbacks are just 25-for-61 passing, just a 41.0% completion percentage for just 302 yards, which is just 4.95 yards per attempt. That equates to a 93.4 NCAA passer rating.

Dakota Cox was UNM’s last FWAA Freshman All-America.
