Swim and Dive Finishes Fifth at Chick-Fil-A Invite

FRESNO, CALIF. — The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team concluded the Chick-Fil-A Invitational in Fresno, Calif. on Saturday, finishing in fifth place with a total of 402 points. The Lobos closed the meet just 2.5 points behind fourth-place Washington State.

UNM was able to capture five more top-10 finishes in day two, bringing its meet total to 16. Saturday’s session was highlighted by senior Natasha Dark, who clinched the second-place spot in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 253.40. Dark’s consistency over the weekend contributed 31 points for the Lobos.

Once again, freshman Nicholle Toh grabbed a third-place finish, this time in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.13. Toh was also a noted member of the Lobos’ two relay squads that finished in the top ten during day two.

Freshman Olivia Bishop posted another solid showing, finishing seventh out of 52 in the 100 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 52.41. Like Toh, Bishop was also a top performer for UNM’s relay teams through the day.

In the 1650 yard freestyle, freshman Josie Carpenter notched a seventh place finish with a time of 17:32.26, securing 12 points for the Lobos.

In the 400 yard freestyle relay and the 400 yard medley relay, UNM placed seventh and eighth, respectively. The 400 free relay team finished in 3:33.39 and consisted of senior Talia Passarelli, sophomore Bryndis Bolladottir as well as freshmen Bishop and Toh. The 400 medley relay squad touched the wall in 3:54.82 and included senior Asami Terada and freshmen Bishop, Toh and Andrea Mariscal.

UNM will be back in action Nov. 1 when it travels to Flagstaff, Ariz. to face off against Northern Arizona.
