ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— In the final meet before the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, The University of New Mexico track and field team is headed to the Lone Star State for a one-day meet hosted by Texas Tech on Saturday.

UNM will compete in 16 events, including one relay, with 18 total Lobos competing.

Action at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track and Field Complex will get underway with the javelin at 11:30 a.m. CT/ 10:30 a.m. MT.

As has been in most meets this season, many UNM student-athletes will appear in multiple events on Saturday. Beau Clafton and Alejandro Goldston will have the most entries, with Clafton competing in the javelin, the 100-meter dash and a member of the men’s 4×100-meter relay and Goldston in the long jump, 200-meter dash and also as a member of the relay team.

Shannon Fritz will compete in the high jump and pole vault and Alvin McCray, Diamond Black and Cathilee Mullings will double in the long jump and triple jump. Runners Larimar Rodriguez and Steffi Jones will both race in the 400- and 800-meters, while Ben Parmoon, Isaac Cole and Bryan Cutler will all run the 200- and 400-meters. Jay Griffin IV will run a leg of the relay as well as the 200-meter dash. Akeisha Ayanniyi will compete in one field event and one track event in the long jump and 100-meter dash.

Other entries include Ada’ora Chigbo and Brent Dionisio in the high jump, Katherine Whiting in the pole vault, Allison Mady in the shot put and Marthe Roee in the triple jump.

UNM is coming off of a successful showing at the Brutus Hamilton invitational last weekend in which Dionisio and Chigbo both earned wins in their respective high jump events and Parmoon won the 400-meter dash.

Mullings, Mady and Fritz all placed second in the triple jump, shot put and high jump, respectively.

However, as the chances to record a qualifying mark or time for the NCAA preliminary round decrease, the results are less about places finished but rather marks and times recorded. As of date, Mullings is the only competitor for UNM at the meet that is above the cutoff point in the triple jump, sitting at 40th  in the West region with a mark of 41-1.5 (12.53m) from the Don Kirby Tailwind Open.

Live results for the meet will be available HERE.
