Women’s Golf Wraps Up Play at Silverado Showdown

NAPA, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up competition at the Silverado Showdown co-hosted by Colorado and Oregon on Tuesday with an 18th-place finish. Senior Emma Edwards led the Lobos as a low second-round score highlighted her 34th-place finish.

Edwards shot an even 72 in round two to mark the lowest score posted by a Lobo throughout the competition. The senior’s first-round score of 74 (+2) and third-round score of 80 (+8) brought her three-round total to a 226 (+10). Edwards led the team in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.20 (+6) and she carded 33 pars on the tournament.

Coming in second for UNM was junior Reva Morris who finished in a tie for 62nd with a score of 233 (+17). Morris also recorded her best score in the second round as she shot a three over, 75 and she led the Lobos in birdies with seven. The junior also led the team in par-3 scoring as her average of 3.08 (+1) tied for sixth overall in the category.

Sophomore Caroline Jansson led UNM in round three as she shot a 78 (+6) to bring her three-round total to an 18 over, 234 to finish tied for 66th. Senior Darian Zachek trailed by two strokes as her score of 236 (+20) landed her in a tie for 74th.  Zachek led the team in pars as her 35 in the competition tied for seventh overall.

Freshman Kamie Hamada recorded a third-round score of 83 (+11) to bring her combined total to a 34 over, 250.

As a team, UNM recorded a 65 over, 929 with a first-round score of 309 (+21), a second-round score of 303 (+15) and a third-round score of 317 (+29). The Lobos carded 149 pars and 19 birdies throughout weekend and performed their best in par-3 competition on the tournament, scoring with an average of 3.33 (+13).

Northwestern claimed first at the tournament as it shot a six over, 870 with the help of a tournament-high 179 pars. USC took second with a 10 over, 874, while Stanford finished third at 17 over, 881. USC led the tournament in birdies (40) and was the only squad to record multiple eagles (3).

The Lobos will be back in action on April 15 – 17 as they head to the Mountain West Championships in Palm Springs, Calif.
