ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The outdoor season continues for The University of New Mexico track and field teams as the Lobos travel to Berkeley, Calif. for the Brutus Hamilton Invite this Friday and Saturday on the campus of Cal Berkeley and Edwards Stadium.
Joining the Lobos at the meet will be host Cal, UC Davis, Sacramento State, Nevada, San Francisco, San José State, St. Mary’s and Santa Clara among others.
UNM will have 10 entries on Friday in six events and 46 competitors and two relay teams in 22 events on Saturday.
Several Lobos will be entered in more than one event, with Camillo Dünninger competing in a team-high four events.
Dünninger will be competing in multiple field events in the two-day meet, starting with discus on Friday at 3:30 p.m. MT and the javelin at noon MT, the high jump (1:45 p.m. MT) and the shot put (2:30 p.m. MT) on Saturday.
MacKenzie Everett will run in two events on the first day of the meet, in the 1500-meter at 2:20 p.m. MT and the 800-meter at 3:25 p.m. MT
Tanner Battikha (triple jump, long jump), Shannon Fritz (pole vault, high jump), Diamond Black (triple jump, long jump) and Alvin McCray (triple jump, long jump) are all entered in multiple field events on Saturday, while Cathilee Mullings is scheduled to compete in the long jump on Saturday after running the 100-meter dash on Friday. Black will also run in the 100-meter dash in addition to her two field events and Alejandro Goldston will run the 100-meter dash and compete in the long jump.
On the track, Abbi Rael, Isaac Cole and Bryan Cutler will all run the 400-meter and the 200-meter and Iolo Hughes is set to run the mile as well as the 800-meter, with one event on each day.
UNM returns to California coming off of a strong showing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa in which the Lobos earned three event wins. One of those was Ada’ora Chigbo in the high jump, who will compete in the high jump on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. MT. Ryan Chase finished third in the long jump to lead the Lobos with Battikha tied for fourth in the event and Aidan Quinn was second in his flight and posted the fourth-best mark overall among all competitors in the four flights in the triple jump. Quinn and Chase will be competing in the same events this weekend.
This week, the women were ranked ninth in the USTFCCCA outdoor team rankings, signifying the highest ranking in program history. The Lobos moved up three spots from the week prior to break into the top 10 for the first time.
