RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Sophomore Caroline Jansson of The University of New Mexico women’s golf team continues to lead for the Lobos after two rounds of the 2019 Mountain West Championships on Tuesday. Jansson is sitting tied for 15th individually while the Lobos remain in eighth.

Jansson recorded a score of 77 (+5) in round two, duplicating her first-round score and bringing her two-round total to a 154 (+10). The sophomore logged 13 pars on the day to bring her combined total to 23, tying her for third in the competition and trailing the tournament leader by just two (25).
Also posting duplicate scores in round one and round two was senior Darian Zachek who shot a six over 78 as she is leading the squad in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.25 (+2). Zachek finished the day in a tie for 19th place with a score of 156 (+12) and her 22 pars so far in the competition is tied for fourth overall.
Senior Emma Edwards chopped three strokes off of her first-round score as she shot a seven over, 79 to bring her to 17 over, 161 overall. Edwards registered two birdies in the round and her combined three in the competition leads for the Lobos. Trailing by three strokes and finishing the round tied for 32nd was junior Reva Morris who holds a score of 164 (+20).
Freshman Tiana Cruz leads the team in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.88 (-1) to put her tied for third in the category. Cruz finished round two in 43rd with a score of 23 over, 167.
As a team, the Lobos improved their score by one stroke in round two as they shot a 317 (+29) to bring their two-round total to a 635 (+59). The squad has raked in 94 pars across the competition to tie for fourth in the category and is posting an average of 5.08 (+3) on par-5s. UNM trails seventh-place Wyoming by just three strokes and leads ninth-place Colorado State by five.
San Diego State took the lead in round two as its score of 295 (+7) on the day was an eight-stroke improvement from its first-round score. The Aztecs hold a total of 22 over, 598 and lead second-place San José State by nine strokes as the Spartans are shooting 31 over, 607. Nevada follows by just one stroke as its 607 (+32) lands the Wolf Pack in third.
Individually, Fresno State’s Brigitte Thibault holds first place with a score of three under, 141 as she has carded a tournament-high 10 birdies across the first two rounds. She is the only individual shooting below par in the competition as second-place Fernanda Escauriza (San Diego State) is shooting one over, 145. San Diego State leads with three individuals in the top 10 while San José State has two.
The third and final round of the Mountain West Championships will tee off on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. MT.
