NAPA, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team chopped six strokes off of its first-round score to improve to 15th place after two rounds of the Silverado Showdown co-hosted by Colorado and Oregon in Napa, Calif. on Monday. Senior Emma Edwards continues to lead for the Lobos as she is tied for 11th across the competition.

Edwards improved her score by two strokes in round two as she shot an even 72 with the help of three birdies and 12 pars to bring her two-round score to two over, 146. The senior is leading for the Lobos in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring and her average of 3.00 (E) on par-3s is tied for fourth overall. Edwards also leads the team in pars as her 24 over two rounds has her tied for fifth in the category.
Junior Reva Morris also bettered her score in round two as her total of six over, 78 was a three-stroke improvement from round one. Morris jumped up 17 spots on the leaderboard to finish the round tied for 49th with a 153 (+9). Trailing by three strokes after seeing a four-stroke improvement on Monday was sophomore Caroline Jansson who is tied for 66th with a 12 over, 156.
Senior Darian Zachek sits just one stroke behind with a 157 (+13) as she is tied for 74th, while freshman Kamie Hamada is in 93rd with a two-round total of 23 over, 167.
As a team, the Lobos improved two spots on the leaderboard to finish round two in 15th with a score of 612 (+15). New Mexico is fourth of the Mountain West teams competing as it leads UNLV by seven strokes and trails 14th-place Colorado State by just one, 12-place San Diego State by four, and fourth-place San José State by 23.
Northwestern took the lead in round two after shooting a team score of three under, 285 on the day to bring its total to an even 576. Second-place Stanford is 11 strokes behind with a 587 (+11) while third-place USC is shooting 12 over, 588.
Round three of the Silverado Showdown is set to begin on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. MT with a shotgun start.
