Lobos Through Two Rounds at Arizona Wildcat Invite

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished up the first two rounds of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona on Monday. The Lobos are in 15th place as junior Reva Morris leads for New Mexico after posting the lowest score on the team in both of the day’s rounds.  

ROUNDS 1 & 2 RESULTS

Morris finished round one in a tie for 13th after recording a low score of just one over, 73 with four birdies and 10 pars. The junior went on to register two more birdies in the second round to give her a total of six on the day, just two shy of the tournament leader (8). Morris shot a score of eight over, 80 in round two to bring her combined total to a 153 (+9), putting her in a tie for 31st across the competition.

Sophomore Caroline Jansson trails by just one stroke as she shot a five over, 77 in both of the first two rounds to land her in a tie for 40th with a score of 154 (+10). Jansson also registered six birdies on the day and is tied for first in the tournament in par-3 scoring with an average of 2.75 (-2). Freshman Kamie Hamada follows for UNM as she shot a six over, 78 in round one followed by a nine over, 81 in round two to put her in a tie for 64th with a combined score of 159 (+15).

Senior Darian Zachek finished round two tied for 68th with a combined total of 16 over, 160 with five birdies, while senior Emma Edwards trailed by one stroke as she shot a 17 over, 161 to land tied for 75th.

As a team, UNM shot a 308 (+20) in round one before adding eight strokes in round two, shooting a 316 (+28). The squad posted the third-most birdies on the day (24) and is just five behind Arizona State’s 29 in the competition. The Lobos’ two-round total of 48 over, 624 puts them just two strokes behind 14th-place Grand Canyon (46 over, 622) and three strokes behind 13th-place Michigan (45 over, 621).  

UNLV and Iowa State are tied for first after the first two rounds as they each posted combined scores of 18 over, 594. Host Arizona follows in third by just one stroke, as it shot a 19 over, 595 with a low first-round score of one under, 287.

Round three of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational will tee off on Tuesday, March 12 at 7:00 a.m. with a shotgun start. LIVE STATS
