SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine with a 15th-place finish on Tuesday. The squad’s third-round score marked its lowest of the tournament with the help of an eight-stroke improvement by junior Reva Morris across the course of the competition.

Morris shot her personal-best score of the tournament in round three with a five over, 77 after recording an 85 (+13) in round one followed by an 84 (+12) in round two. Morris finished up the competition with 28 pars and one birdie to land her in a tie for 74th overall with a three-round total of 30 over, 246.
Finishing first for New Mexico was freshman Kamie Hamada who improved 15 spots on the leaderboard to land in a tie for 29th. After posting a 77 (+5) in round one followed by a 79 (+7) in round two, Hamada came out and recorded her lowest score of the competition in round three, shooting a two over, 74 to bring her composite score to a 14 over, 230. The freshman led the Lobos in pars (34) while also carding four birdies.
Coming in five strokes behind and finishing tied for 50th was senior Darian Zachek who carded a 235 (+19). Zachek’s performance was highlighted by a low-first round score of two over, 74 with four birdies in that round alone. The senior led the squad in birdies (6) and was just three shy of the tournament leader’s nine. Sophomore Caroline Jansson followed for New Mexico in birdies, registering a total of five over her three rounds. Jansson finished the competition in a tie for 69th after shooting a combined total of 27 over, 243.
Redshirt-sophomore Zoey Akagi-Bustin wrapped up the competition in 78th place after a third-round score of 17 over, 89 brought her combined total to a 261 (+45).
As a team, UNM shot its lowest score of the tournament in round three with a 27 over, 315. The Lobos chopped eight strokes off of their second-round total of 323 (+35) to bring their overall total to 954. The squad registered 123 pars and 18 birdies across the course of the competition, while its lowest individual score of two over, 74 was posted by both Zachek in round one and Hamada in round three.
Taking first place in the tournament was Stanford which shot an 895 (+31) with 172 birdies and 25 pars. Oregon, which led in pars (177), came in second with a combined team score of 34 over, 898 while Arizona State trailed by just one stroke to land itself in third with a score of 899 (+35). Arizona State’s Olivia Mehaffey took first place at the competition with a score of four over, 220 while leading in birdies (9) and being one of three players to card an eagle across the tournament.
The Lobos will be back in action on March 11-12 as they head to Tucson, Ariz. for the Arizona Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona.
