Lobos Through Round One at Bruin Wave Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished round one in 13th place at the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine on Monday. While freshman Kamie Hamada and redshirt-sophomore Zoey Akagi-Bustin were able to finish round two, the rest of the squad was forced to put the action on pause for the day due to loss of daylight.

Those that did not complete round two will do so at 7 a.m PT / 8 a.m. MT Tuesday morning while round three is expected to tee off at 7:25 a.m. PT / 8:25 a.m. MT. Follow via LIVE STATS.

ROUND ONE RESULTS

Senior Darian Zachek led the team in round one as she finished in a tie for 11th with a score of two over, 74. Zachek recorded the most birdies on the team on the day (4) and is leading the squad in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.35 (+4). Hamada finished the first round in second for New Mexico, trailing Zachek by three strokes and carding a 77 (+5) to finish tied for 34th. Through two rounds, however, Hamada added two strokes to her round-one total for a total of 156 and 44th place. She currently leads the team in birdies with a total of 22 (11 per round) as well as in both par-3 and par-5 scoring.

Coming in third for the Lobos in round one was sophomore Caroline Jansson who shot an eight over, 80 to land in a tie for 57th. Jansson registered two birdies in the round and has added one more so far in round two. Junior Reva Morris followed Jansson by five strokes as she shot an 85 (+13) in the round to finish in 76th.

Akagi-Bustin finished fifth for the Lobos in round one, coming in 78th with a score of 16 over, 88. The redshirt-sophomore was able to chop off four strokes in round two to card a 12 over, 84 and bring her two-round total to 172 (+28).

As a team the Lobos finished round one in 13th place with a combined total of 316 (+28). The squad trailed 12th-place San Francisco by five strokes and 11th-place Arizona State by eight.

Leading the tournament after one round was Northwestern which shot a score of 295 (+7) and had two players finish the round in the top-10. Oregon finished in second place with a total of eight over, 296 and was followed by third-place UCLA which shot 10 over, 289.

The remainder of round two and the entirety of round three is set to kick off Tuesday at 7 a.m. PT / 8 a.m. MT and 7:25 a.m. PT / 8:25 a.m. MT, respectively. LIVE STATS
