ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team is honoring five seniors on Saturday as the Lobos host the Nevada Wolf Pack in their final home meet of the season. Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. MT in Seidler Natatorium.
The five seniors to be recognized include Carol De Groote Tavares, Adriana Palomino, Konoha Shinada and team captains Allyson Concepcion and Emily Huffer. The senior-day ceremony is scheduled to begin following the 1-meter dive event at approximately 11:45 a.m.
The Lobos took on the Wolf Pack earlier this season at the Houston Invitational on Nov. 16-18. UNM took third overall in the meet and outscored Nevada, 891-863.
Entering Saturday’s meet, the Lobos have 15 swimmers with times ranked in the top 10 in the Mountain West. Palomino leads the league with the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.77) and 1650-yard freestyle (16:14.63), ranks second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.44) and is third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:11.18). Joining Palomino in the Mountain West ranks are sophomores Klara Farkas and Matea Sumajstorcic who follow, ranked third (4:48.19) and fourth (4:48.27), respectively in the 500-yard freestyle. Sumajstorcic is also currently ranked fourth in the 400-yard IM (4:18.06).
