Women's Golf Hosts Annual Branch/Dick McGuire Tourney
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is set to open its 2018-19 season hosting its 40th annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday, Sept. 10 through Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The 16-team field will complete rounds one and two on Monday before finishing with the third round on Tuesday. Both days will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start on the par-72, 6317-yard course.
The field will include Northwestern, which finished fourth in the 2018 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship last year, as well as Kent State which was seventh. The other teams to join the field include UC Davis, Central Arkansas, Colorado, Fresno State, Idaho, Iowa, Iowa State, UNLV, New Mexico State, Pepperdine, San Diego State and Washington.
The Lobos return five players from last year’s roster including seniors Darian Zachek and Emma Edwards, junior Reva Morris, redshirt-sophomore Zoey Akagi-Bustin and sophomore Caroline Jansson. UNM also welcomes a pair of talented and highly-decorated freshman to the roster in Canada native Tiana Cruz and Hawaii native Kamie Hamada.
Zachek led the Lobo returners last season with a 73.87 average over 30 rounds and is set to compete on Monday. Joining Zachek in the lineup is Jansson, Morris and Edwards while Hamada will serve as the lone freshman in the top five. Both Akagi-Bustin and Cruz are slated to compete as individuals.
The Lobos kick off the season with their own tournament before taking to the road to compete at Oklahoma, Texas and Baylor (in San Jose, Calif.) in the fall. The Lobos will return to action for their spring season in February when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Rebel Beach Invitational hosted by UNLV and Long Beach State. They will continue spring competition with five more tournaments before the Mountain West Championships on April 15-17.
