New Mexico finished just seven over par as a team in Monday’s round, which put the squad at an overall score of 873 (+21) to end the tournament in a highly-decorated and nationally-ranked field.

Senior Sean Carlon was consistent on the weekend and ultimately led the Lobos with a three-round score of 216 (+3), tied for 18th place. He was followed by freshman Sam Choi who carded a score of 217, putting him just four over to tie for 23rd overall.

“Overall this was not a bad start to the year for us,” head coach Glen Millican said. “Sean and Sam both had nice finishes inside the top-25. All of the guys showed good composure throughout each round and if we continue operating this way, we will play a lot of really good golf this year.”

Choi improved from a rough start going five over through the first 18, and improved to four over par across three rounds to end the tournament. He hit a 75 in round one, followed by a 70 in round two and a 72 in the final round on Monday.

The pair was followed by redshirt-sophomore Ross Sinclair who finished leading UNM after day one, tied for 12th overall with scores of 72 and 71. He posted a 76 in round three to drop to tied for 32nd (219, +6).

The Lobos will head to SMU for the Trinity Forrest Invitational on Sept. 23-25 before returning home to host the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Sept. 28-29.
