Lobos Finish 13th at Battle at the Beach

SAN JOSE, Mexico — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up its fall season at the Battle at the Beach hosted by Baylor on Sunday. The Lobos finished the tournament in 13th place out of 17 teams in the field of strong competition.

It was junior Reva Morris who led the way for the Lobos in round three as she shot just two over, 73 and registered three birdies on the day. She shot a three-round total of 229 (+16) and led the squad in birdies with a total of eight on the weekend. Morris improved her score in each round of action to land her in a tie for 60th overall, finishing second for New Mexico on the leaderboard. 

Coming in first for the Lobos was senior Emma Edwards who finished in a tie for 53rd after recording a total of 228 (+15) in the tournament. Edwards shot an even par 71 in round two as she registered 10 pars and four birdies for a team-low score on the tournament. 

Sophomore Caroline Jansson posted a third-round score of seven over, 78 as she recorded a grand total of 232 (+19) in the tournament. Coming in one stroke behind was senior Darian Zachek who shot a five over, 76 in the third round to make her three-round total a 233 (+20). Rounding out the team score was freshman Kamie Hamada who shot a 23 over, 236 on the weekend after posting a 77 (+6) in round three. 

As a team, New Mexico shot a 20 over, 304 in round three for a three-round total of 916 (+64). The squad finished in 13th place overall and trailed 12th-place Baylor by seven strokes. The Lobos registered 154 pars and 22 birdies over the weekend. 

Auburn took first place in the tournament as it posted a seven under, 845 in the tournament and led second-place TCU by 17 strokes. TCU led the tournament in pars with a total of 179, while Vanderbilt registered the most birdies with 48. 

The Lobos will be back in action in 2019 as they open up their spring season at the Rebel Beach Invitational on February 18-19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
