ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—  There will be little turnaround time from cross country season to track and field season for several Lobos, but they won’t be alone.

Six New Mexico runners that competed in the NCAA Championship on Nov. 17 will be in Boston for the indoor track and field season opener, joined by 15 other runners who also ran over a week ago in Madison, including Allie Ostrander from Boise State and Jaci Smith of Air Force.

Weini Kelati, Ednah Kurgat, Charlotte Prouse, Adva Cohen, Hannah Nuttall and Emily Martin will all take to the track on Saturday, Dec. 1 at BU’s Track and Tennis Center for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

Cohen, Kelati, Kurgat, Nuttall and Prouse will run in section one of the 5,000-meter race, with Martin in the second section.

Sophomore Kelati, junior Kurgat and senior Prouse are all coming off of their second All-America finishes at the championship behind runner-up, fifth-place and nine-place finishes, respectively.

Running in the first section will be seven runners who finished in the top 25 at nationals and 10 who earned All-America honors, including the three Lobos, out of a total of 17 runners in the section.  In the second section, seven of the 16 runners competed in the NCAA Championship, with three collecting All-American accolades.

Kurgat and Kelati finished second and third, respectively, in last year’s 5,000-meter, with Kurgat crossing the line in 15:19.03 and Kelati at 15:37.03. In doing so, Kurgat set the UNM and Mountain West records, breaking the school record by 35.26 seconds and the conference record by 2.82 seconds.

Nuttall is also scheduled to run in the mile starting at 9:17 a.m. MT.

Carlos Salcido will be the lone male runner in attendance, scheduled to compete in the 200- and 400-meter dash. The 400-meter will begin at 10:27 a.m. MT followed by the 200-meter at 11:55 a.m. MT.

The women will compete in the 5K at approximately 2:40 p.m. MT, which can be viewed on FloTrack.
