Lobos Through One Round at Battle at the Beach

SAN JOSE, Mexico — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up the first round of action at the Battle at the Beach hosted by Baylor on Friday. Sophomore Caroline Jansson led the way for the Lobos in round one as the squad finished the first day in a tie for 14th. 

ROUND 1 RESULTS

Jansson posted a score of just three over, 74 in round one of tournament play and is sitting just five strokes out of first place. Coming in four strokes behind was senior Emma Edwards who recorded a 78 (+7) in the round and is sitting in a tie for 56th. Freshman Kamie Hamada finished up the day in a tie for 74th with a score of 80 (+9).

Junior Reva Morris lead the team in birdies (4) as she posted a score of ten over, 81 on the day. Senior Darian Zachek recorded a round-one score of 83 (+12). Zachek, Jansson, Edwards and Hamada all registered 11 pars in the round, just four shy of the tournament leader (15).

As a team, the Lobos posted a 313 (+29) in the first round of action as they landed in a tie for 15th alongside Tulsa. The squad registered a combined total of 49 pars and six birdies in the round and is sitting four strokes behind 14th-place Denver which shot a round-one score of 25 over, 309.

Finishing round one in first place was Auburn which posted a score of 287 (+3) and is ahead of second-place Texas by five strokes. Texas leads the tournament in pars with a total of 62, while Tulane holds the most birdies (16) after round one. Four teams including Virginia, Iowa, Auburn and Oklahoma each registered an eagle on the day.
