ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico men’s golf coaches Glen Millican and Chris Massoletti excited to announce a pair of talented student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent (NLIs) and will join the Lobos for the 2019-20 season. This year’s signing class includes Albert Boneta from Barcelona, Spain and Dylan Fritz from Las Vegas, Nev.

“Both of these guys have been committed for some time and we’re really excited to have them both starting with us next fall,” head coach Glen Millican said. “They are experienced and talented competitors and have demonstrated their abilities both in the US and overseas. We are really looking forward to them becoming a part of our program.”
 Albert Boneta

Albert Boneta | 5-8 | Barcelona, Spain
Boneta joins the Lobos from Barcelona, Spain where he is set to graduate from Ies CAR High School in 2019. The stand-out competitor has earned himself four notable top-10 finishes during his high school career including first place at the 2018 Grand Prix, a second-place finish at the 2018 Campeonato de Barcelona, a fourth-place finish at the 2018 Campeonato de Catalunya Absoluto and a sixth-place overall finish at the 2017 Doral Publix Junior Classic. Boneta also landed a 23rd-place finish at the 2018 Spanish Amateur Championship and made an appearance in the 2017 and 2018 Boys Amateur Championships.

Millican on Boneta: “Albert has played with the Spanish National Team for quite a while and has a really accomplished resume. He has played well in junior and amateur events all over Europe including a very impressive win a the 2018 Grand Prix de Lande. He was also impressive in extremely difficult conditions this summer at the British Boys Amateur in Ireland. We are looking forward to having our first Lobo golfer from Spain!”

Boneta on why he chose UNM: “I am very happy to finally be part of the UNM men’s golf team. From the first moment, I really liked it a lot. The academics are very good and so are the athletics. The coach has been very nice to me and has been a very positive influence. I am really excited to start and be a part of this magnificent university.”
 Dylan Fritz
Dylan Fritz | 6-3 | Las Vegas, Nev.
Fritz comes to UNM from Las Vegas, Nev. where he is scheduled to graduate from Coronado High School in 2019. The two-time first team All-State honoree (2017, 2018) clinched first place in two championships during his high school career, including one at the 2017 Sunrise Region and the other at the 2017 Southern Nevada Invitational. Fritz competed in high school under coach Joe Sawaia, helping his team win the state championship in 2018.

Outside of high-school competition, Fritz posted three top-10 finishes and three top-15 finishes in AJGA competition and made match play in the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur, as well as made it to the Monday Qualifier for the Shiners Hospitals for Children Open in 2015. Dylan also has New Mexico ties as his great uncle, Jim Surber, played baseball for the Lobos (’69-72) and is a graduate of UNM.

Millican on Fritz: “Dylan has been committed to the Lobos for a while and it’s been a long time getting him here, we can’t wait to have him. He had a great junior career in Vegas at the national level and brings with him a lot of high-level experience that will provide immediate depth to our lineup. He clearly was part of some great golf in his home state but we were impressed with how much he traveled to play. He has shown his game can travel and was able to expose himself to different styles of golf. We’re glad to know he will be taking that game around the country for the Lobos soon!”

Fritz on why he chose UNM: “When I first visited the school I fell in love with the atmosphere of the campus and the city of Albuquerque as a whole and I knew after that I had to go to school here at New Mexico. Also with Coach Millican and the history of success he and the university have, I knew it was the right fit for me.”

Boneta and Fritz are set to join the rest of the UNM men’s golf team in Fall 2019. For more on UNM Lobo men’s golf, follow GoLobos.com or follow @UNMLoboMGolf on Twitter.
