Women’s Golf Wraps Up Round Two in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team shaved three strokes off of its first-round score in round two of play at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invite hosted by the University of Texas on Saturday. Senior Emma Edwards led the Lobos in the second round as she improved her first-round score by four strokes.

Edwards stepped up her game in round two as she registered three birdies and posted a score of five over, 77. A duo of Lobos came in just one stroke behind as senior Darian Zachek and junior Reva Morris shot a 78 (+6) in the round. Morris shot one birdie while Zachek recorded 12 pars on the day and currently leads the Lobos in the tournament tied for 38th overall.

Freshman Kamie Hamada shot nine over, 81 in the second round of play while sophomore Caroline Jansson wrapped up the round with a score of 83 (+11).

The Lobos showed improvement in the second round as they shot a 314 (+26) in round two, making their combined total a 631 (+55). The squad is sitting in 12th place out of 13 teams as they face a strong field of competition in Austin, Texas. The University of Texas and Kent State are tied for first in the competition with combined team scores of 575 (-1), a total of 11 strokes ahead of third-place Florida.

The third and final round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invite is set to kick off tomorrow with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m.
