Jansson Leading for the Lobos After Round One

NORMAN, Okla. — Sophomore Caroline Jansson of The University of New Mexico women’s golf team led the way for the Lobos in round one at the Schooner Fall Classic this Friday in Norman, Okla. As a team, UNM finished 14th in the round as they competed against a strong field in their first appearance at the tournament.  

Jansson posted a first-round score of 74 (+3) and completed the day tied for 48th. Senior Emma Edwards was just one stroke behind, shooting a 75 (+4) and recording 13 pars on the day. Four out of the five Lobos competing in the contest shot a pair of birdies on the day including Jansson, senior Darian Zachek, junior Reva Morris and freshman Kamie Hamda. The squad wrapped up the round with a score of 303 (+19).  

Zachek finished the round with a score of 77 (+6), tying with Morris. Hamada was just four strokes behind, posting an 81 (+10) on the day.

Tied for first place in the tournament are Alabama and Texas, each of which posted a score of 272 (-12) in round one. Alabama, which earned the victory last season, once again has the leading overall scorer in junior Lauren Stephenson, the defending Schooner Fall Classic Champion, who is tied for first.

Lobos resume competition on Saturday for round two at 8 a.m., followed by the third, and final, round on Sunday. The action continues on Saturday as round two kicks off at 8:00 am MT.
