NORMAN, Okla. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is set to travel to Norman, Okla. to compete in the sixth annual Schooner Fall Classic, hosted by Oklahoma, this Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30. This will be the Lobos’ first appearance at the tournament in its history.
The 2018 Schooner Fall Classic will be held at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., a 6,063-yard course.

The Lobos will compete against a deep field consisting of 14 other squads including host Oklahoma, Alabama, Baylor, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, UNC-Wilmington and Wisconsin.
UNM enters the tournament following a 5th-place finish at the 40th Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational to start the season Sept. 10-11. This season marked the first time since 2009 that the Lobos finished in the top five of the tournament. This season’s competition was stacked with a pair of 2018 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship squads and an overall strong field of 18 teams.
Senior Darian Zachek tied for second overall with a final score of 210 (-6). Highlighting her performance, Zachek registered an eagle on her final hole of the day in round two. Junior Reva Morris also had a strong showing posting a final score of 218 (+2) in the tournament.
Of the 15 teams to compete at the Schooner Fall Classic, UNM, UNC-Wilmington, Oregon and Wisconsin will all be making their first appearance. Alabama, who took first place last year at the tournament, returns to the course this weekend after shooting 21-under for a total of 831 last year in the competition. Alabama’s key returner, senior Lauren Stephenshon, landed a second-place finish in the contest with a final score of 203 (-10).
Round one kicks off on Friday at 10:30 a.m. MT, followed by round two on Saturday and round three on Sunday.
