Track & Field Scores 17 All-Mountain West Selections

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Seventeen University of New Mexico track & field athletes were selected to the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference men’s and women’s teams on Monday.
The Lobos, who received a third-place finish from the men and a sixth-place finish from women during the MW Outdoor Championships last week in Clovis, California, saw eight men and two men’s relay teams claim 11 total honors, while five women posted six total selections.
All-Mountain West selections are awarded to the top three finishers in each event at the conference championships.
For the men, Alejandro Goldston, the Male Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet, led the way with three all-conference selections. He earned two selections for a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dash, while adding a third honor as part of the men’s winning 4×100 meter relay.
Carlos Salcido also captured three honors, one for his 200-meter title and two as a part of the Lobos’ 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
The men’s distance athletes also claimed a handful of honors, including Josh Kerr, the three-time defending MW titlist in the 1500, Ian Crowe-Wright (1500) and Kristian Uldbjerg Hansen (800).
Mark Haywood and Jay Griffin IV also earned All-MW honors for their contributions to the men’s 4×100, while Haywood, Ben Parmoon and Isaac Gonzales were recognized as part of the men’s 4×400.
Brent Dionisio, winner of the high jump, and Tanner Battikha, winner of the long jump, also captured All-MW honors.
Additionally, Daniel Lam was selected for his runner-up performance in the decathlon.
On the women’s side, titlist Ednah Kurgat was accorded all-conference honors for her win in the 10,000, with Weini Kelati also earning honors in that event.
Also receiving honors were Alice Wright (5000), Charlotte Prouse (3000 steeplechase) and Kya Mohns (400 hurdles/pentathlon).
The Lobos’ next competition will be the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California, on May 24-26. Declarations for the West Prelims will be announced Thursday, May 17.
