EL PASO, Texas — The University of New Mexico Lobos took advantage of a short-handed UTEP squad for a second straight year, winning 4-0 over the Miners and pushing the Lobos back to .500 for the season at 6-6.  UTEP fell to 6-11.

UTEP entered the match with just five healthy players, meaning UNM just needed to win one of the two doubles matches, and the No. 1 team of Hsiang-Wen “Albie” Huang and Danielle Quevedo did just that with a 6-1 win over Lois Wagenvoort and Raven Bennett.

That sent UNM up 1-0 and it immediately went to 2-0 as UTEP didn’t have anyone for the No. 6 singles match.  That meant UNM needed to win just two more, and that happened rather quickly.  Bronte Murgett took care of Maria Paula Medina 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 and Quevedo defeated Milena Baigorria 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the match.

UNM has now won three straight, and the Lobos will look to move in front of .500 for the first time since the end of the 2015-16 season when the team travels to take on New Mexico State in Las Cruces on Easter Sunday morning.
