ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — There are a lot of different college baseball polls, and depending on which one you look at, a team might be a few spots higher or lower when comparing polls. So while a question can be had to where a team is ranked, there is no question when there is a zero in the loss column. That would describe Texas Tech.
The Lobos head to Lubbock, Texas, the site of UNM’s regional trip in 2016, to take on the 13-0 undefeated Red Raiders, who are ranked as high as No. 3 in the polls. The game starts at noon Mountain Time. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for the midweek game.
The Lobos went 1-2 against Nevada, dropping the opener 8-5 and the finale 13-8 but winning the middle game 8-5. That game featured a terrific pitching performance by Robert Gasser. The freshman went 5.1, allowing just two runs. Christian Tripp picked up the win in relief. Hayden Schilling went nuts during the season, going 8-for-14 with five doubles.
Now sitting at 5-5-1 overall, UNM faces its first true road trip of the season. After playing Texas Tech on Wednesday, UNM will travel to Fresno State for a weekend series, and then stay on the road to take on Cal Poly and Pepperdine on Monday and Tuesday.
