ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Taking on its second straight Pac-12 opponent, the New Mexico Lobos were game but couldn’t quite pull off a second-straight stunner, losing to Colorado 5-2 in a match played indoors at the Linda Estes Tennis Center.

Having just come off a rousing 4-2 win against Utah on Friday, UNM went with the same lineup, and although UNM played well, it wasn’t quite good enough.

Unlike Friday, UNM dropped the doubles point.  The Lobos lost the opening doubles match at No. 3 with Natasha Munday and Lauren Rich dropping a 6-2 decision.  Bronte Murgett and Diana Wong came back to pick up a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 doubles, evening the doubles point at 1-1, but Colorado battled back from a 5-2 deficit at No. 1 doubles and Brigitte Beck and Chloe Hule nipped Ruth Copas and Danielle Quevedo 7-6 (7-2).

Colorado took a 2-0 lead when Quevedo lost at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2 to Hule, but UNM got one back when Murgett thrashed Beck 6-1, 6-4.  Down 2-1, Colorado clinched the victory with wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles.  Linda Huang took a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ruth Copas, and then Ilana Oleynik defeated Lauren Rich 6-4, 6-2.

The teams at 4-1 played it out, and UNM won a three-set match with Diana Wong winning in a super-set tiebreaker 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-3 and Hsaing-Wen “Albie” Huang lost to Kyra Wojcik 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).

The Lobos will finish its three-match homestand on Friday with a 5 p.m. match with BYU.

NOTES:  Diana Wong’s win was her third straight … the Lobos are now 0-6 at No. 2 singles but 5-1 at No. 3 singles … this was the first match this season in which UNM won a doubles match but lost the doubles point.
