Six Lobos Make MW All-Conference

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team had six of its student-athletes selected to the 2018 Mountain West All-Conference Team following the conclusion of the Conference Championships on Saturday. The Lobos’ members include juniors Adriana Palomino, Konoha Shinada, Emily Huffer and Allyson Concepcion and freshmen Matea Sumajstorcic and Klara Farkas. All-Conference honors were given to the top-eight individuals in each event at the MW Conference Championships in San Antonio, Texas along with the top-three relay teams in each event. 

Adriana Palomino was one of two Lobos to make All-Conference in two different events including the 1650-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Palomino set a school-record in the 1650-yard freestyle, posting a time of 16:22.34, which placed her second in the event. She finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a final time of 4:45.74.

Matea Sumajstorcic also made All-Conference in two separate disciplines. Sumajstorcic set a school-record in the 400-yard individual medley after racing to a time of 4:19.33, good for sixth place. She then placed eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:39.11.

Emily Huffer was the third UNM swimmer to break an individual school-record at the meet. Huffer earned her record in the 200-yard butterfly preliminaries, posting a time of 1:58.30. She then narrowly missed her new, record-breaking mark in the final, finishing second with a time of 1:58.38.

Klara Farkas also made the team in the 200-yard butterfly. She finished eighth in the A-Final with a final time of 2:01.71.

Konoha Shinada earned her All-Conference honors in the 100-yard butterfly. Shinada finished sixth in the event after posting a final time of 53.93.

Allyson Concepcion was the only diver to make the All-Conference Team, earning her spot in the platform dive. Concepcion qualified seventh overall in the preliminaries with a score of 214.89 and then finished eighth in the final with a score of 180.48.
