ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team will kick off 2018 with a quad-meet in San Diego, California on Monday, January 8. The Lobos will be going head-to-head with three other Mountain West universities including San Diego State, Fresno State and Colorado State.

UNM last competed at the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston, Texas and the NAU Diving Invitational in Flagstaff, Arizona in late November. The Lobos broke multiple school records at the Phill Hansel Invite, with junior Adriana Palomino breaking her school record in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.15) and tying her own school record in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:22.46). For her efforts at the meet, Palomino earned her second Mountain West Swimmer of the Week honor. Junior Konoha Shinada also broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly (53.45) in Houston.

The upcoming quad-meet is one of three events that the Lobos will be competing in before postseason competition begins. UNM will compete in its final home event of the season on Saturday, January 27, hosting New Mexico State in a dual-meet. The diving team will then travel to the Air Force Academy in Colorado for the Air Force Diving Invitational on February 2-3.

The Lobos will then begin postseason competition with the Mountain West Championships in San Antonio, Texas from February 14-17, which will be streamed by FloSports. Fans can watch the championships by signing up for FloSports’ PRO subscription and can download the site’s app on iOS, Roku and Apple TV 4. The NCAA Diving Zone follows in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 5-7 along with the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio on March 14-17.
