Lobo Alumni Continue to Advance on Professional Stage

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Multiple former University of New Mexico golfers made splashes on professional tours recently, including Andrej Bevins, Sam Saunders, James Erkenbeck, DJ Brigman, Victor Perez, Spencer Levin, Tim Herron and Gavin Green.

Bevins, who graduated from UNM just last season, made it through the first stage of Web.com Q-School at the Dayton Valley Golf Club in Dayton, Nevada. Bevins finished tied for 16th in the event at a 5-under 283. His four rounds included a 3-over 75, two consecutive 3-under 69’s and a 2-under 70 in that order. Sam Saunders will play with Bevins in the second stage of Web.com Q-School at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, California. Erkenbeck also advanced through the first round of Q-School, but he earned his promotion for the European Tour. He finished tied for sixth with a 6-under 278 at the Stoke by Nayland Hotel in England. Erkenbeck shot a 2-under 69 in round one, a 1-over 71 in round two, a 2-under 69 in round three and a strong 3-under 68 in round four. He will begin the second stage on Friday, Nov. 3 and play through Monday, Nov. 6 at the Desert Springs Golf Club in Almeria, Spain. To follow Erkenbeck, click here.

DJ Brigman is also set to compete in the second stage of Q-School, but he will be competing in Dothan, Alabama at Highland Oaks. Brigman will compete on Tuesday, Oct. 31 through Friday, Nov. 3. To follow Brigman in the event, click here

Victor Perez will be playing for a spot on the European Tour next season, as he sits 17th in qualifying points with the top 15 earning cards. Only one event remains in the qualifying rounds, the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final. The tournament will be held at Al Mouj Golff in Muscat, Oman from Wednesday, Nov. 1 through Saturday, Nov. 4. Spencer Levin and recent UNM Hall of Honor Inductee Tim Herron both concluded play at the Sanderson Farms Championship on the PGA Tour in Jackson, Mississippi on Sunday. Herron finished tied for 53rd with an even 288, scoring a 1-over 73 in round one, a 6-under 66 in round two, a 1-over 73 in round three and a 4-over 76 in round four. Levin finished close behind, tying for 59th with a 1-over 289. He scored a 3-under 69 in round one, a 2-under 70 in round two, a 4-over 76 in round three and a 2-over 74 in round four. Finally, Gavin Green currently sits atop the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit, with the winner receiving a ticket to the Open Championship. Green finished play at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions on the PGA Tour in Shanghai, China on Sunday, tying for 38th. This was Green’s third straight PGA Tour event, as he competed against professional golf mainstays like Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Phil Mickelson among others, with Justin Rose finishing atop the leaderboard with a 14-under 274. Green finished with a 1-over 289, scoring a 7-under 65 in round one, a 2-over 74 in round two, a 1-over 73 in round three and a 5-over 77 in round four. Click here for the events full results.
