The Lobos – Alexandra Moisand, Ingrid Gutierrez, Darian Zachek, Reva Morris and Caroline Jansson
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — After the first day of Gonzaga’s Coeur D’Alene Collegiate Invitational, the University of New Mexico women’s golf team is holding a place in the top-10 with senior, Ingrid Gutierrez leading the pack.
Gutierrez carded a score of 3-under 139 [72, 67] on the day. The first round for Gutierrez was very consistent and by the end she was only 1-over 72 on this 6,088 yard course. Sophomore Darian Zachek was leading for the Lobos after the first round with a 2-under 69, however Gutierrez earned her top-5 finish on the leaderboard after day one with her second-round score of 4-under 67. Zachek carded a respectable score of 142 [69, 73] to end the day.
Freshman Caroline Jansson had another strong showing after earning a 4-over 146 [73, 73]. Jansson has appeared to play well under pressure and the strength of this field is giving her the opportunity to step up and make waves for the Lobos. Another new Lobo, sophomore-transfer Reva Morris is in her second tournament as a Lobo and finished the day with 8-over 150 [73, 77]. Senior, Alexandra Moisand carded a 11-over 153 [80, 73] for the Lobos and is looking to move up the leaderboard after the final round.
“For the most part, we played very well,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We left a lot of birdies out there on the par 5s, however, so that will be one of our main objectives tomorrow.”
On the top of the team leaderboard is Colorado who is currently being led by Kirsty Hodgkins 9-under 133 [68, 65]. Hodgkins shares the leaderboard with fellow teammate Robyn Choi who ended the day being third with a score of 137 5-under [72, 65]. With this 18-under 550 lead, the field will be chasing Colorado in the final round of the tournament on Sept. 17.
The Lobos will have another shotgun start at 7:45 A.M. [PT] to complete the third and final round of the invitational.
