COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is making its way up to the Coeur d’Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational hosted by Gonzaga University on Sept. 16 and are looking forward to sharing the field with 17 other schools.

According to Gonzaga, this is their first-ever collegiate invitational that they are hosing at the Coeur d’Alene Resort which has the Lobos excited and looking forward to playing at this beautiful course located right off Floating Green Dr. The course is Par-71 and will be covering 6,088 yards.

“We have a very competitive squad this year and all seven can be on the starting five,” said head coach Jill Trujillo.

During the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational junior, Darian Zachek had another top-5 finish for the second year in a row as a Lobo with a total score of 2-under 214 [69,72,73]. Her consistency on UNM’s home course shined after she carded 12-birdies in both this season and the previous. With Zachek’s experience and the strong senior leadership from Alexandra Moisand and Ingrid Gutierrez, the Lobos hope for a strong showing in Idaho.

Freshman, Caroline Jansson’s first appearance for the Lobos was as an individual during the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire where she carded 8-over 224 [74,72,78]. The Swedish native appears to be strongest in the face of tournament pressures and is looking to continually qualify for the traveling team.

Another new face for the Lobos is sophomore-transfer, Reva Morris who qualified for the second time to field for the Lobos. Morris had a rocky start in her first showing amongst a more competitive field after totaling at 10-over 226 [79,71,76] at the team’s home invitational.

“Reva brings a nice positive spark to our team,” mentioned Trujillo. “She doesn’t let her teammates get down on themselves and in turn it makes everybody else more excited.”

The Lobos will have a shotgun start on Sept. 26 at 8 a.m. [PT] and will complete the first and second rounds after day one.
