ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team ended the day with a total score of 7-over 879 [295,289,295] earning them a tie for 7th place at the annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
 
“I am very pleased with the team’s performance,” said head coach Jill Tujillo. “We were only 16-shots away from the champions and that’s a big improvement from last year.”
 
Junior Darian Zachek had another strong showing on the final day carding 2-under 214 [69,72,73] and ended the tournament being tied for 5th with four other players. Zachek had 12-birdies over the course of three rounds for the second year in a row.
 
After a hard first day, the team’s two seniors, Ingrid Gutierrez and Alexandra Moisand, slowly climbed up the leaderboard to finish their last showing at the team’s home tournament as Lobos. Gutierrez totaled at 5-over 221 [77,72,72] at the end of the final round. Moisand finished being tied for 37th with a final score of 6-over 222 [74,74,74] and carded three birdies in the third round.
 
Sophomore-transfer Reva Morris finished her first tournament wearing the cherry and silver with a final score of 10-over 226 [79,71,76]. Also, fielding for the Lobos was junior, Emma Edwards who totaled at 13-over 229 [75,78,76] over the course of the three rounds.
 
UNM’s individual, freshman Caroline Jansson ended her first collegiate tournament with a respectable score of 8-over 224 [74,72,78]. Red-shirt freshman, Zoey Akagi-Bustin struggled to find her footing on the leaderboard and ended the tournament at 25-over 241 [80,79,82].
 
For the second year in a row, Oklahoma State takes home the prize with a team score of 1-under 863 [291,284,288]. Following closely behind after a nail-biting final round, Northwestern claimed 2nd with a team score of 1-over 865 [290, 288, 287], only two strokes behind the tournament champions.
 
Arizona’s Bianca Pagdanganan had a significant lead after the first two rounds, but Stanford’s Andrea Lee came up fast behind her in the final round. After both carded the final score of 8-under 208, the two players share the title of tournament champions.
 
“Overall, I’m excited for what’s to come,” mentioned Trujillo. “Our girls stayed strong throughout the tournament and showed that they’re ready to play.”
 
The Lobos have two weeks till they hit the road to Spokane, W.A. for Gonzaga’s Coeur D’Alene Resort Collegiate from Sept. 26th to Sept. 27th.
