INDIANAPOLIS — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team has qualified for the 2017 NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals on May 15-17.

UNM is set to appear at the Kampen Course, part of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Lobos are the 8th seed in their regional pool and will enter competition ranked 42nd in the most recent GolfWeek standings.

New Mexico is coming off a fifth-place performance at this year’s MW Championships behind all-conference performer Andrej Bevins. The Lobos recorded eight top-five finishes in 13 events and finished third in the regular-season MW rankings.

UNM is looking for a repeat performance of its 2013 campaign that saw the squad crowned champions of the NCAA Auburn Regional en route to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championship in Alpharetta, Georgia.

The Lobos will be joined by Mountain West rivals UNLV and San Diego State in NCAA competition. This marks the 18th consecutive season that the MW has sent at least three teams to the NCAA Regionals.

UNLV earned this year’s MW automatic bid after capturing the conference championship for the second consecutive year. The Rebels are set to compete as a No. 3 seed in the West Lafayette regional. SDSU enters its 19th consecutive regional as a No. 7 in the Sammamish Regional.

13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

This year’s Regional slate includes six 54-hole tournaments being held between May 15-17 with tournaments taking place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; College Grove, Tennessee; West Lafayette, Indiana; Stanford, California; Austin, Texas; and Sammamish, Washington.

The NCAA Championships will decide the team and individual medalists on May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Northern Illinois University is the host institution for the 2017 championships.
