AUGUSTA, GA — The first day of competition for the 39th 3M Augusta Invitational is in the books, with the University of New Mexico men’s golf team sitting atop the leaderboard at 19-under 557 (283-274).
 
Three Lobos recorded marks that landed them inside the tournament’s top-10.
 
The team’s effort was led by Andrej Bevins (70-67), who carded seven birdies on the day in addition to an eagle on the par-5 6th. At day’s end, Bevins sat in a two-way tie for 3rd at 7-under 137. He also recorded the lowest par-4 scoring average at 3.85, and fourth-lowest par-5 (4.50) and par-3 (3.00) averages.
 
Another Lobo managed to crack the top-5, Andre Garcia (70-68) birdied two of his final four holes en route to carding a 4-under mark of 68 in the afternoon portion of play. His day included ten total birdies, in comparison to only tallying four bogeys on the day.
 
Garcia found himself inside the top-3 in two of the three statistical scoring categories, while also recording the third-most birdies on the day. After 36 holes, Garcia sits at 6-under 138 and in a three-way tie for fifth.
 
Sean Carlon (69-70) rounds out the list of Lobos sitting inside the top-10. His consistency was on display through all of the day’s completiontition, however the highlight of his day came on the par-4 1st where he recorded an eagle two. Carlon put together a stretch of holes where he recorded four birdies in five holes, while also finishing the day with the lowest par-3 scoring average in the field.
 
Gustavo Morantes (74-69)concluded the day as part of a six-way tie for 33rd and 1-under 143. His afternoon session helped him to climb 20 spots up the leaderboard.
 
Samuel Kim (75-74), save for a few mistakes, had a fairly consistent round and eventually finished the day as one of the four competitors tied for 63rd at 5-over 149.
 
On the individual side, Dylan Meyer of Illinois leads the way at 11-under three shots clear of  Michael Perras out of Houston.
 
Play is set to begin tomorrow at 8:30 ET.
