ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s off the New Hampshire for the Lobo ski team as the squad heads East to compete in the 2017 NCAA Ski Championships. The Lobos, who finished fourth in three meets this season and fifth in the other two, will have their work cut out for them, but the team does have a shot, especially with a pair of tour winners this season.
Here are UNM’s four groupings that are headed to the NCAAs:

The two winners during the season were Vegard Busengdal, who won the slalom at the RMISA Championships, and Krista Niiranen, who won the sprints at the Utah Invitational. UNM also got podium finishes from Karoline Sovik Myklebust, Arnaud Guyon and Sydney Staples. However, on Monday, Busengdal crashed in a training race, going underneath and through the protective retaining fence and crashing into a snow cannon. That will most likely knock him out of the championships (he will eventually be fine, but he’s too sore to ski this weekend), with Isak Klein making the emergency trip on Tuesday to get to New Hampshire in time for the giant slalom on Wednesday.
