Lobos Open MW Conference Play Against Fresno State

Albuquerque, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team is fired up and ready for their fourth home match this Friday after two weeks off!
 
The Lobos (7-9) open Mountain West Conference play against Fresno State (9-10) on Friday, Mar. 31 at 4 p.m. MT at McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium (weather permitting). They will then travel to Reno, Nev. on Sunday to face the Nevada Wolf Pack at 12 p.m. PT / 1 p.m. MT.
 
This is the second time the two teams meet this month and this season. The first time they played the Bulldogs was on Mar. 4 at the Pacific Mountain Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Fresno State defeated New Mexico 4-1.
 
New Mexico looks to come back and defend their 3-0 home winning streak against Bulldogs this next time around. They are coming off a 5-2 win over Northern Arizona on Mar. 14. Last season, the No. 5 seeded Lobos were defeated by the tournament champions, UNLV, in the first-round match of the Mountain West conference tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-6 loss to Washington this past weekend in Honolulu, Hawaii. Last season, No. 8 seed Fresno State stunned the conference by defeating No. 1 seed Utah State in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament. They eventually fell to the tournament champion, UNLV, in the semifinals.
 
In doubles, Ricky Hernandez-Tong and Rodolfo Jauregui lead the team in wins posting a 7-5 record. They are followed by Bart Van Leijsen and Dominic West with a 6-5 record. Fresno State’s doubles dou of Xander Veys and Mantas Bugailiskis lead the Bulldogs with a 7-5 record.
 
In singles, Hernandez-Tong leads the Lobo squad 16-8 followed by Jauregui 11-11. Frenso State’s Bugailiskis leads the Bulldogs 11-5 followed by Youssef Hassan 10-7.
