PACIFIC MOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL INFO | SEASON STATISTICS
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team travels to the Pacific Mountain Invitational this weekend in Stockton, Calif. hosted by the Pacific Tigers and co-hosted by the New Mexico Lobos.
The teams competing in this year’s tournament include Cal Poly, Grand Canyon, Wichita State, UT Arlington, Fresno State, New Mexico, San Francisco and Pacific. More information on the teams, as well as a bracket for the tournament, is available here at Pacific’s tournament central website. The event will take place at Pacific’s Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
The Lobos (6-5) will face Mountain West opponent Fresno State at 9 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. MT on Saturday, Mar. 4. If the team wins, they will go on to face the winner of Pacific and San Francisco in the winner’s bracket at 1:30 p.m. PT / 2:30 p.m. MT.
The first and second round of the tournament will all take place on Saturday. The final round will be on Sunday with match times to be announced after Saturday’s matches are completed.
In doubles, Bart Van Leijsen and Dominic West lead the team with a 5-3 record and look to improve this weekend. Ricky Hernandez-Tong and Rodolfo Jauregui follow closely behind with a 5-4 record.
Hernandez-Tong leads the Lobos with a 14-9 record in singles this year and is followed by closely by Juaregui with 11-9. Hernandez-Tong recently received MW Player of the Week after a successful home opener last weekend, going 2-0 in singles against UTSA’s Juri Reckow and NMSU’s Chris Goncalves.
The Fresno State Bulldogs (6-5) are coming off a 4-3 loss to UC Davis yesterday. They are led by Mantas Bugailiskis, Youssef Hassan and Xander Veys in singles and the doubles duo of Patrik Pech and Euan McIntosh.
