ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team heads to San Luis Obispo, Calif. this weekend for two match ups against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Loyola Marymount University (LMU).
The Lobos enter this weekend 1-4 after the team’s big win two weeks ago against Boise State for ITA Kick-Off in Los Angeles. Not to mention that it was also both head coach Ben Dunbar and assistant coach Robin Goodman’s first win of the spring season as coaches of the program.
Bart Van Leijsen went unfinished in singles against #11 Gage Brymer of UCLA and defeated Kyle Butters of Boise State at ITA Kick-Off Weekend. He also went unfinished against Joseph Di Giulio/Austin Rapp of UCLA and defeated Kyle Butters/Harvey Shackleton of Boise State with Dominic West in doubles.
Rodolfo Jauregui (9-5) and Ricky Hernandez-Tong (9-4) currently lead the team in single wins. They also lead the team in doubles wins (5-4) and look to improve their records in both competitions.
“We are looking forward to heading back out to California to compete,” said Dunbar, “we have respect for both the Cal Poly and Loyola programs. We are excited to get back on the match courts after a couple of weeks of hard work and see what we are made of. I know the guys are hungry and raring to go.”
