DENVER, Colo. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team dropped to 0-3 on the season after falling to the Denver Pioneers 6-1 on Friday afternoon. It was UNM’s first match this season played to completion.
UNM dropped the doubles point two matches to none, setting up singles play. Denver’s Bianca Mok defeated Dominique Dulski at No. 2 singles and Maureen Slattery defeated Ruth Copas to make it 3-0. Ludivine Burguiere then got UNM back to 3-1 with a comeback victory. After dropping her opening set 6-2, she came back to win in three sets 6-3, 6-4. However UNM could get no closer.
Limited by just a three court set-up, Denver officially won when Sonja Radosevic took down Diana Wong 6-0, 6-1. The match played out after that, with Cassie Chung falling in a long match 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 and then Emily Olivier, in her first match since October, lost 6-1, 6-2.
It doesn’t get any easier for UNM as the team stays on the road to take on undefeated Colorado Sunday a team 2 p.m.
