TUCSON, Ariz. — The Cincinnati Bearcats defeated New Mexico 5-2 in a close match in Tucson, Arizona on Friday. The loss dropped UNM to 1-6 on the season, while Cincinnati pushed its record to 6-3.
The Lobos fell behind 1-0 after dropping the final two doubles matches to lose the doubles point. Ludivine Burguiere and Cassie Chung teamed up at No. 2 doubles and won 6-2. However, UNM fell at No. 1 as Ruth Copas and Dominique Dulski were clipped 6-4 and then to decide the doubles point, Emily Olivier and Diana Wong lost a tiebreaker 8-3.
Cincinnati went up 2-0 with a win at No. 1 singles before Wong picked up her first Spring singles win to make it 2-1 as she won 6-2, 6-2. However, Cincinnati took the win with three straight wins.
UNM got it back to 4-2 with a win by Rachana Bhat at No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, but fell in the final singles match at No. 2 to end it at 5-2.
