Lobos top Aggies for fifth time in a row

UNM VS. NMSU RESULTS

LAS CRUCES, N.M./U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team made it five wins in a row over in-state foe New Mexico State with a 193-107 victory over the Aggies on Saturday.
 
The dual took place in two locations with the swimmers competing in Las Cruces while the divers were competing at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado with the UNM and NMSU’s scores being added to the swimming results.
 
The Lobos are undefeated in their last six meetings with NMSU, which includes a tie in 2012. UNM last lost to the Aggies in 2011 and are 10-4-1 against NMSU in their previous 15 meetings.
 
The Lobos claimed 12 of the 16 events against the Aggies with three UNM swimmers claiming two events apiece.
 
New Mexico’s Adriana Palomino took first in the 200 free (1:53.63) and the 500 free (5:05.48), Konoha Shinada claimed first in the 100 backstroke (57.79) and 100 free (52.88) and Emily McGill took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.98) and 200 IM (2:08.12).
 
Also taking first in events Saturday was Anna Lengyel in the 1,000 free (10:38.23), Abigail Wheeler in the 200 fly (2:07.16), Madison Burns in the 50 free (24.56), Carol De Groote Tavares in the 200 backstroke (2:05.22) and Kaela McKee in the 100 fly (57.04).
 
The Lobos next compete at the Mountain West Championships from Feb. 15-18 at College Station, Texas.
