ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico third baseman Carl Stajduhar has been named to the 2016 Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team, as announced Thursday.

Stajduhar adds this honor to a list that also includes being named the 2016 Tony Gwynn Player of the Year by the Mountain West Conference. The sophomore has been a rock in the lineup all season long, ranking seventh in the nation with 160 total bases this season.

Stajduhar also ranks 10th in the nation in RBI at 66 and 11th in home runs at 18. However, his MW statistics are the most impressive. During MW play, the third basemen earned the league’s version of the triple crown with a MW-best .421 batting average, 39 RBI and nine home runs. Stajduhar was also the MW league leader in slugging percentage at .746 against conference opponents.

Stajduhar’s last hit came in the seventh inning Saturday against Nevada, driving in two runs that won the MW Championship in walk-off fashion. That win put the Lobos in the NCAA Lubbock Regional, where they will face Dallas Baptist Friday at 6 p.m. CT/5 p.m. MT.
