ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former University of New Mexico men’s soccer player and current Seattle Sounder defender Oniel Fisher has been selected to the 40-man provisional roster for the Jamaica National Team for the upcoming Copa America Centenario.

Fisher has been a key part of the Sounders since last season, when he emerged as a primary option at left back as a rookie. After starting nine matches last year, he has logged 41 minutes this season and started in the team’s home opener against Sporting Kansas City.

Fisher has been on Jamaica’s radar for years after receiving his first national team cap in 2010. He played two seasons for the Lobos in 2013 and 2014, logging four goals and three assists over 39 matches.

The “Reggae Boys” will narrow down their roster as the Copa America approaches. Jamaica’s opening match is scheduled for June 5 against Venezuela at Soldier Field in Chicago.
