ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Two University of New Mexico men’s golfers have been named to the 2016 Mountain West All-Conference Men’s Golf Team, the conference announced today.
Junior Andrej Bevins and Sophomore Gustavo Morantes were both named to the all-conference squad. Bevins and Morantes follow up last year’s three nominees in Green, Romero and Saunders.
Head Coach Glen Millican shared his thoughts,
“Nice recognition for both Gustavo and Andrej. Both had solid seasons and deserve to be on that team” said Millican.
Bevins was the champion of the 2016 William H. Tucker Invitational helping the Lobos capture their fourth consecutive Tucker title. Morantes was the champion of the National Invitational Tournament hosted by the University of Arizona.
Bevins has played 35 rounds on the year and is carrying an average of 73.29 on the season, with a low round of 66. Morantes leads the Lobos in scoring average, carrying a 72.46 also with a low round of 66.
They both lead UNM in 1st round and last round scoring averages. With respect to par-3 scoring Bevins carries a 3.16 average in comparison to Morantes’ 3.18. On par-5’s Morantes ranks in the top-60 in the nation with an average of 4.62, Bevins follows close behind at 4.70 and comes in ranked 187th.
The two additional selections coming from this year’s team give UNM 14 All-MW efforts in the last five seasons.
