Weekly Notes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It might be a break from the rigors of Mountain West play … but it sure isn’t a break.  The University of New Mexico steps out of conference for a weekend series against No. 27 Arizona State (23-15), with games Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and a chance to showcase itself against a Pac-12 team on the road and get a few more wins against a nationally ranked team.

It’s an interesting weekend with the Lobos (30-13) having a chance to face a big opponent that could certainly bolster UNM’s at-large chances (UNM’s RPI is currently 55 while Arizona State sits at 89) while going with it’s front line pitching.  Carson Schneider will get the ball for Friday’s 7:30 Mountain Time start, and Tyler Stevens will do likewise on Saturday at 7:30 Mountain.  Regular Sunday starter Colton Thomson will go at 1:30 Mountain Time on Sunday (Arizona is currently Pacific Time).

UNM will have the services back of Chris DeVito, who took a game off against New Mexico State on Tuesday.  He was missed, but not on the scoreboard as UNM took out its neighbors to the South 10-4, with back-to-back Mountain West Player of the Week Carl Stajduhar belting two more home runs to give him 13 on the season, two more than DeVito.

For fans not able to make the trip, the games will be streamed free of charge at http://pac-12.com/live/arizona-state-university, and the games will be broadcast live all three days locally on ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM with Robert Portnoy on the call.  The audio stream is also free at www.1017theteam.com.
