COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For the third time with a third different player in the third week of the season, the University of New Mexico baseball team earned a Mountain West Player of the Week honor as Carl Stajduhar won the award this week after an impressive four-game stretch for the Lobos.

The preseason All-American Stajduhar hit .550 (11-for-20) with three home runs, four doubles, nine runs and nine RBI in helping UNM go 3-1, including a three-game sweep at Air Force where the Lobos (7-3 overall, 3-0 Mountain West) put up 59 runs and 68 hits.

In the Lobos’ lone loss of the week at No. 6 Texas Tech (a 7-2 defeat) on Feb. 28, Stajduhar went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double. The Lobo third baseman had multiple hits in each game during the week and hit a homer in three of the four games.

Stajduhar matched a career high with five RBI on Saturday after going 4-for-6 with a home run and two doubles during the Lobos’ 24-16 win over Air Force.

The three home runs gives Stajduhar 31 in his career, moving the junior to ninth place on the Lobo all-time list. He’s also now tied for sixth on UNM’s all-time consecutive start streak list with 118 as Stajduhar has started 130 of the 131 games since arriving in Albuquerque prior to the 2015 season.

On the season Stajduhar is hitting .354 with four home runs, four doubles, 13 RBI and 13 runs.

UNM first baseman Jack Zoellner won the Mountain West Player of the Week award during the first week of the season while center fielder Luis Gonzalez won the award in the second week.

The Lobos, who are ranked No. 3 in the first RPI rankings released by the NCAA on Sunday night, continue play 6:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) against New Mexico State at Southwest University Park in El Paso, Texas, and then return home to host a three-game series against San Jose State starting 6 p.m. Friday.
