LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Khadijah Shumpert was named to the All-Mountain West Tournament Team as announced by the league office Friday.
Shumpert was the only player from a semifinal and quarterfinal team. The other four players were all in the championship game that was played Friday afternoon. Colorado State’s Elin Gustavsson and Ellen Nystrom and Fresno State’s Bego Faz Davalos and Toni Smith were the others name to the team.
Shumpert led the Lobos to the semifinals, averaging 19.5 ppg. She shot 52 percent from the field in the two games and missed just one free throw, going 13-for-14 from the line. She also picked up 4.5 rpg, one block and two steals.
Of the two games, her best game in the quarterfinal round. She finished with a game-high of 26 points which tied the MW record for points in a second round game. She was 11-15 from the field, breaking the MW record for field goals made in a second round game, and 4-for-4 form the free throw line. Her .733 shooting percentage also broke the MW record for field goal percentage in a second round game.
In the loss against Colorado State, Shumpert was limited as the Rams keyed on her but Shumpert still came out as the top scorer for the Lobos. She finished with 13 points, nine of those coming from the free throw line.
