ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Cassie Chung continued her run through the back draw at the 2016 ITA Mountain Regional, knocking out seeded Lilian Poling of Boise State 6-4, 6-1, giving her three straight wins to advance to the back draw quarterfinals as she is the last Lobo standing in the tournament.  Chung, who moved her Fall record to 5-3, will take on Utah State’s Monika Van De Vondel in the quarters.

UNM’s other back draw competitor was Rachana Bhat, who lost in the consolation round of 16 by a 6-4, 6-1 to Sebrina Demerath of Utah State.  New Mexico has one doubles team left in the main draw, and that was Ludivine Burguiere and Dominique Dulski, but they dropped their round of 16 match with UNLV’s Aiwen Zhu and Carol Yang 8-4.

Despite no Lobos getting into the semifinals, save for Chung’s opportunity on Saturday, the Lobos still sit as a team with a group singles record of 33-24.  The Lobos also sit at 13-10 overall in doubles.  That’s where UNM should finish the Fall season and the team will have some time off before the beginning of the Spring competitive season, which opens on January 27 at the University of Georgia.
