2016 ITA Mountain Regional Results | Singles Draw | Singles Back Draw | Doubles Draw
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobos continued competition at the ITA Mountain Regional on Thursday, claiming two singles victories and one doubles win on the day. Ludivine Burguiere and Andrea Leblanc each took a singles match while Burguiere joined with Dominique Dulski for a solid doubles victory in the round of 32.
After earning a bye through to the round of 64, the No. 15-seed Burguiere topped MSU’s Laura Middel by a score of 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the round of 32. There she faced the 17th seeded Chloe Forlini of Air Force where she was defeated 6-4, 6-1.
Leblanc, who entered the tournament as the third seed and also automatically advanced to the round of 64, took her first win of the day 6-3, 6-0 over MSU’s Chloe Goyette to move on to the round of 32. In her second match of the day, Leblanc faced UNLV’s Paola Artiga, who entered the tournament as one of nine 17 seeds. In a close match, Leblanc ultimately fell to Artiga, 7-6, 6-3.
Burguiere and Dulski also had a bye into today’s doubles competition. The pair faced BYU’s Natella Nabieva and Demi Perkinson in the round of 32 and earned a commanding 8-4 victory to advance in the tournament.
After earning a 6-4, 6-4 win in the tournament’s first day of competition Wednesday, Ruth Copas fell to No. 9-seed Magdalena Stencel of Wyoming on Thursday. She dropped the first set, 6-0 before nearly earning the comeback in set two, 7-5. Copas’ record slips to 7-4 on the season with the loss.
Diana Wong, who also won her first match on Wednesday, fell to No. 17-seed Drottya Jonas of Wyoming in her second competition of the tournament.
In the upset of the day, the third-seeded Leblanc and partner Rachana Bhat, who earned a bye into the round of 32, fell to the unseeded pair from BYU that consisted of Kate Cusick and Taylah Beckman by a score of 8-5.
The Lobos will continue competition in the back draw. Thursday saw Cassie Chung earn a win over Eli Amaudova of NMSU in the round of 64 to advance to the round of 32. She proceeded to take out Ana Batiri of UI to hang in the competition.
In addition, Bhat topped Courtney Schulte of UNC on Thursday in the round of 32 to move on to the round of 16.
The USTA/ITA Regionals will continue through Sunday, Oct. 16.
