ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is set to compete in the inaugural Paintbrush Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Parker, Colorado, at the Colorado Golf Club in an event hosted by the University of Denver.
The three-round tournament begins with the first and second rounds taking place Monday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. MT. The final round takes place Tuesday and is also set to begin at 8:30 a.m. MT.
According to head coach Glen Millican, the UNM five-man Lobo lineup will be Andrej Bevins, Andre’ Garcia, Gustavo Morantes, Sam Kim and Sean Carlon. Ben Tolsma is also traveling, competing as an individual.
The Lobos add to a deeply talented 15-team field that includes nine teams inside the top-100 nationally, highlighted by defending NCAA Champion Oregon.
Joining host-school Denver in the 15-team tournament will be Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas Tech and Wyoming. Rounding out the list of competitors are the three teams currently ranked inside the top-25 in Oklahoma State (sixth), Texas Tech (13th), and Colorado (17th).
The Colorado Golf Club played host to the 2010 Senior PGA Championship and is set up to the tune of 7,357 yards and par-72. It was also home of the 2013 Solheim Cup and forthcoming 2019 Mid-Amateur Championship.
Colorado Golf Club is one of the premier golf courses in Colorado. The course was ranked 33rd in Golfweek’s Top 100 Modern Courses and fifth in Golfweek’s Top 100 Residential Courses in 2015.
“Colorado Golf Club is a great course and should be a really good test of golf,” Millican said. “Denver and the staff at the club has put on a first class event and we look forward to the challenge Monday and Tuesday.”
The course stretches up to 7,604 yards, while playing as a par 72. The Championship Course was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw in 2007.
Through two tournaments this fall, the Lobos have recorded consecutive top-5 finishes, beginning with the Gopher Invitational and most recently, at the team’s annual home event the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.
