Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of New Mexico has hired a new Assisstant golf coach.
UNM Head Coach Glen Millican expressed his excitment over Massoletti’s experience both as a player and as a coach saying, “Coach Massoletti is a great addition to Lobo Golf and UNM Athletics. His resume is filled with many experiences that make him a great fit for our program. His five seasons coaching college golf, along with a professional teaching and playing career prior to that, have shown his ability to have a great impact on our student-athletes. In addition, his playing career in college at Chico State and Texas A&M gives him direct knowledge and experience of the situations our players will go through in all aspects of their time here.”
Chris Massoletti was at the helms of both the Mens and Womens golf programs at St. Mary’s for the previous three seasons. He lead the men’s program to three consecuative regional apperances.
“I am extremely excited to be able to join a program that year in and year out is consistently one of the best programs in the country. I am looking forward to working with Coach Millican and learning from him as he is one of the best in the business as what he does.”
One of the best seasons in women’s program history came in 2015-16, in which his squad won the Heartland Conference for the first time in 12 years. In addition his womens program also qualified for the NCAA South Central Regional.
Before becoming a staff member at St. Mary’s, Massoletti was a volunteer assistant at St. Edward’s for the men’s golf team for two seasons.
Massoletti, hails from Chico, Calif., where he was a NCAA Division II Second Team All-American at California State University Chico. His first two years of collegiate golf were at Cal. State Univ. Chico, however he transfered to Texas A&M as a junior prior to the 2005-2006 season. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree 2008 and promptly turned professional, his professional career included making 12 of 19 cuts.
“Having Chris join our staff will have an immediate impact on the lives of our guys and help us continue to achieve great success in the classroom while competing for championships. I feel fortunate to have him in Albuquerque and am excited to welcome him to the Lobo Family!” continued Millican.
Massoletti began as an instructor at Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock, Texas, and started coaching on the collegiate level as a volunteer assistant at St. Edward’s in 2011.
“We have a great team, great facilities and a super competitive schedule. I am excited to help these young men compete against the best in the country. I feel at home already here and am proud to be a Lobo.” concluded Massoletti.
