ALBUQUERQUE, NM. – The University of New Mexico’s men’s golf team next tournament competition is set to begin Sunday, Feb. 28 and conclude on Mar. 1.
The National Invitational Tournament is hosted by the University of Arizona and held in Tucson. This year’s course is the Omni Tucson National-Catalina Course, which is set to play as a 7,262 yard, par-73.
This years format is 54 total holes, with 18 being played each day. All rounds are set to begin a 8 a.m. MST.
The field for this year’s NIT includes: Arizona, Colorado State, Iowa State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Stephen F. Austin, UC Davis, Utah, UTEP, Wyoming.
UNM is coming off of a 7th place finish in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which included two top-20 finishes by Andrej Bevins and Gustavo Morantes.
The Tucson National’s Catalina course has played host to over 30 PGA Tour events. In 2006 the course acted as host of the NCAA Regionals and has been selected has one of Golf Digest’s 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America.
The Catalina course is a Parkland style course with 8 separate water hazards and 80 bunkers. The course was designed by Robert Van Hagge and Bruce Delvin with the crown jewel being the par-4 18th, both the greens and fairways are made up of Bermuda grass.
